Preliminary Activity

EVALUATION

Before we began to shoot our short horror scene, I learnt how to set up the tripod at different levels to get different shots, how to use the camera and also the different settings on the camera, and also how to use a storyboard effectively to help us plan out exactly what our shots were going to look like, and also to help us plan out what we should do for each shot to get the best result we could, and make sure that we could actually do what we wanted to do and wouldn't have any problems.
When we had filmed all of our scenes we had to edit them into a short trailer. To do this I used iMovie as iMovie allows you to do many different things and is perfect for editing a video. I used this to cut clips, add in the name of our horror scene, add intertitles, our production company logo, effects and also background music to add to the creepy effect that I wanted to achieve. I learnt how to edit different aspects of the clip I created at the end, including how to make the music fade in and out, how to edit the brightness and exposure of the different clips and also how to fade them in and out. I already had knowledge on how to use iMovie so I already know how to do most things.

Before we started to film we also researched different horror films, ranging from well known films to smaller budget films. We looked  at films such as 'Friday the 133th' and 'The Cabin In The Woods' as they were set in the woods how we wanted ours to be.
We also learnt that one of the most important parts of a film is the way that the characters look and are portrayed, so we tried out different outfits and makeup to decide which would look best for our horror scene, using information we had gathered from watching horror films to make it like those. For our scene we decided that the antagonist should have a very pale face and dark eyes. We decided to do this because this is what is stereotypically found in a horror film and what people would expect, so we thought it was a good idea to stick to the classic look. We decided to film in Sutton Park because we thought it would give the creepy effect that horror films give off, which was exactly what it did.

To create the production company logo, we used Fireworks as it's an ideal programme for creating things and our logo turned out really well as we all had knowledge on how to use Fireworks from our previous media work.
When I had to choose a song for my clip, I went on various different websites including youtube, purple planet and also incompetech, which is where I got my music from, and because I downloaded it from that website and not from youtube, I was able to directly insert the song into iMovie without having to convert it first.

Overall I really like how my clip turned out. I think that the overall editing turned out really well, and I think the clip had a scary atmosphere about it and left people wanting to know what happened afterwards, Some of the clips that I used were slightly jumpy and you could see where they stopped and waited to be told to start acting. Although this doesn't really bother me as it's the first time we're doing a clip so I think it went quite well.
